ArtsRising partners with Olney community to host family-friendly Open Mic for youth and adults

Last night in Olney, talent, both young and young-at-heart, came out to share their creativity in front of supportive family and friends at the monthly Open Mic hosted in the basement of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.  This monthly event, held every second Friday, featured a variety of performers including two middle school-aged poets, one from Philadelphia, and the other, a friend of hers whom she invited from Camden.  Other performers showcased a wide array of talent from Beatles' Hey Jude on accordion to a Michael Jackson dance impersonator.  All were cheered for their effort and creative risk-taking.

The Open Mic, which was initiated over a year ago by the North 5th Street Revitalization Project, is now a joint venture with North 5th, ArtsRising and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.  ArtsRising joined the effort recently to help sustain the event and to encourage the increased participation of area youth in finding their own personal creative expression.

The event is hosted by Poet Marsheila Sutton and will continue to be held the second Friday of each month at St. Paul's from 7 - 9 pm.  The church is located at the corner of North 5th and Nedro Sts.
