Beeber Goes Back-to-School
Students, parents and teachers of Beeber Middle School were greeted on the first day of class by City Year Corps Members, who presented a song and dance routine, creating a festive, welcoming atmosphere to kick off the year. Students were delighted, upon entering the building, to find a vibrant and colorful and art installation in their school. The pieces on display throughout Beeber are replicas of works from the Barnes collection, created by the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, which adorned the fences around the new Barnes Museum during construction. ArtRising collaborated with the Barnes Foundation and Beeber to the preserve and relocate these iconic pieces.
As a result of this collaboration, students will have a rare opportunity to participate in the curation of an exhibit of the works and they will act as ambassadors of the art to their community. Students were joined by Gary Steuer of the Mayor’s Office of Arts Culture and the Creative Economy, who wished them luck in the coming year and highlighted Beeber as an ArtsRising school where many opportunities for exploring creativity are open to them.
