Mural Arts Community Paint Day at the Frankford Boys and Girls Club

ArtsRising caught up with muralist Cesar Viveros and the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program at the Frankford Boys and Girls Club location, where a group of 3rd and 4th graders from the Sullivan Elementary School branch of the Boys and Girls Club were hard at work painting panels of a new mural.  The youth were emersed in the details of each panel, carefully applying color in the appropriate location, on a large scale color-by-number fashion.

The young people took time out of their summer routine to participate in a “community paint day” that will contribute to the realization of a project called Imagining Frankford, which Cesar is spearheading.  The final product will be a series of murals, displayed along Frankford Avenue, celebrating the past, present and future of the community.  ArtsRising connected the Boys and Girls Club to Cesar and Mural Arts making this creative experience possible.

Today’s event is great example of youth being connected to arts in their community.  They were excited by the opportunity to contribute to the project and are looking forward to seeing the segments that they worked on taken to scale!

Upcoming: Community Paint Day, Saturday, August 11, 2012 @ 11 am – 2 pm at Second Baptist Church of Frankford, 1801 Meadow Street.
